[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The ruling on the second damages lawsuit filed by former comfort women victims against the Japanese government has been postponed.


According to the legal community on the 11th, the Seoul Central District Court Civil Division 15 (Chief Judge Min Seongcheol) resumed the trial for the damages lawsuit filed by 20 former comfort women victims, including the late Kwak Ye-nam and Kim Bok-dong, and their families against the Japanese government. Accordingly, the verdict originally scheduled for the 13th of this month has been postponed. The court set the next hearing date for March 24. It is reported that the court resumed the trial, recognizing the need for additional examination.


This case was filed on December 28, 2016, by 21 former comfort women victims and their families. This is the second lawsuit filed by comfort women victims against the Japanese government. A previous lawsuit filed by 12 other former comfort women victims against the Japanese government received a favorable ruling for the plaintiffs in the first trial on the 8th of this month.
