[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Everland, operated by Samsung C&T Resort Division, announced on the 3rd that the baby panda 'Pubao' will officially start outdoor activities from the 4th to welcome the New Year of 2021.
As a result, visitors can now directly meet Pubao, who was born on July 20 and has been growing steadily in a private special enclosure inside Panda World.
Everland Zoo stated that Pubao, who weighed only 197g at birth, has now exceeded 10kg after more than five months, increasing in weight by about 50 times. Recently, Pubao has been able to walk well on all fours alone, separated from its mother, showing healthy growth, which is why the zoo decided to start full outdoor activities.
Baby panda Pubao will live with its mother Aibao at the Panda World enclosure every day from 10:20 AM to 3:00 PM. Everland Zoo plans to carefully observe Pubao’s adaptation and flexibly adjust the outdoor hours accordingly.
In particular, from the 4th to the 17th, Everland will operate a pre-reservation system allowing small groups to visit sequentially every day, ensuring thorough COVID-19 prevention and social distancing measures.
Pre-reservations can be made free of charge by anyone through Everland’s official website smart reservation system.
Pubao is the first female panda born in Korea, the offspring of the country’s only giant panda couple, Lubao (male, 8 years old) and Aibao (female, 7 years old).
About 50,000 customers participated online and offline in the baby panda naming event held last October when Pubao was around 100 days old. As a result, the name 'Pubao (福寶)', meaning 'treasure that brings happiness,' was chosen as the final name.
When the baby panda was first born, it only showed pink skin and looked very different from the pandas we commonly know. However, black markings gradually appeared, and from around the 20th day, Pubao began to show the typical panda appearance. Pubao has grown healthily through key developmental stages such as rolling over, crawling, and teething.
Pubao’s growth, which could not be seen in person until now, has been shared through videos and photos on Everland’s official SNS channels, with the total accumulated views of baby panda videos exceeding 50 million, showing great popularity.
Especially before the official outdoor activities, Pubao began adapting to the Panda World enclosure with its mother from mid-December. These scenes were first revealed on SNS, raising curiosity through comments about when people could see Pubao in person.
Going forward, Pubao is expected to live in the Panda World enclosure, secretly climbing trees away from its mother and playing with toys made by the keepers, transforming into a playful 'jangkku (mischievous kid),' attracting much anticipation for its growth.
