[Tomorrow's Weather] Cold Continues on New Year's Day... Snow in Various Parts of the Country

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On January 1, 2021, the first day of the New Year and a Friday, bitter cold will continue nationwide.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 31st, there will be snow in various parts of the country the next day. Snow will fall in Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Jeju until the afternoon. Expected snowfall amounts are 3?8 cm on the Jeolla west coast and Jeju mountains, and 1?5 cm in inland Chungcheong and Jeolla, Jeju (excluding mountains), and Ulleungdo and Dokdo.

In some areas of Jeolla, Jeju mountains, and Ulleungdo and Dokdo, where 10?30 cm of heavy snow has already accumulated, additional snowfall is expected, raising concerns about damage to outdoor facilities such as vinyl greenhouses.

The morning low temperature is forecasted to be between -15 and -1 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high between -2 and 6 degrees Celsius. Fine dust levels are expected to be good to moderate across all regions.

Strong winds and very high waves are expected until the day in the offshore areas of the West Sea, the southwestern offshore areas of the South Sea, Jeju waters, and the East Sea, so vessels engaged in navigation or fishing should exercise caution.

Wave heights near the shore will be 0.5?2.5 m in the East Sea and 0.5?2.0 m in the West and South Seas. Offshore wave heights are expected to be 1.0?5.0 m in the East Sea, 1.0?3.0 m in the West Sea, and 0.5?4.0 m in the South Sea.
