[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] An additional 126 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported at Seoul Eastern Detention Center.
On the 31st, the Ministry of Justice announced that as a result of the 4th full-scale testing conducted on 465 staff members and 1,298 inmates at the Eastern Detention Center, 126 inmates tested positive for COVID-19. Although no additional confirmed cases were found among the staff, 14 individuals were classified as 'undecided' based on test results, indicating the possibility of more confirmed cases emerging.
Accordingly, from the 27th of last month to this day, a total of 918 people at the Eastern Detention Center have tested positive for COVID-19, including 21 staff members and 897 inmates (including released inmates).
Meanwhile, following the Eastern Detention Center, an inmate who tested positive for COVID-19 at Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, died on the same day. Among the two inmates confirmed positive at Seoul Detention Center, the deceased was a man in his 30s, Mr. A, who was known to have suffered from hypertension.
