[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The 'Geochang Murung-ri Tumuli Cluster,' the largest burial mound group of the Gaya Geoyeol Kingdom, and the 'Sancheong Baekmasanseong,' presumed to have been constructed during the Gaya period, have been announced on the 31st as cultural monuments by Gyeongnam Province.

The 'Geochang Murung-ri Tumuli Cluster' is the largest Gaya tumulus group in the Geochang area, consisting of a total of 86 burial mounds.

In particular, it was established as a strategic point on the migration route from the Gaya regions such as Hapcheon and Goryeong to the Baekje region, and its historical and academic value is highly recognized for understanding the relationship with the Gaya forces in the Geochang area, leading to its announcement as a cultural monument this time.

The 'Sancheong Baekmasanseong' is a narrow and long terraced mountain fortress surrounding the summit of Baekma Mountain in Sinan-myeon, Sancheong.

Here, features such as post holes, circular stone walls, and water collection facilities have been identified, drawing significant attention to its relationship with the Sancheong Jungchon-ri Tumuli Cluster construction group, a powerful Gaya force in the Namgang River basin.

Additionally, it has been revealed that this mountain fortress was used as an important military defense facility in western Gyeongnam from the Gaya period through the Joseon Dynasty, and its historical and academic value is highly evaluated, leading to its announcement as a provincial cultural monument.

The 'Geochang Murung-ri Tumuli Cluster' and 'Sancheong Baekmasanseong,' announced as provincial cultural monuments, will be designated as such after a 30-day public notice period during which opinions from various sectors will be collected and reviewed, followed by a review by the Cultural Heritage Committee.
