LG Signature Wine Cellar Wins US Good Design Award

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG Electronics announced on the 31st that its ultra-premium ‘LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar’ has won the prestigious American design award, the ‘Good Design Award.’

The LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar was selected as a winner in the kitchen and home appliances category at the ‘2020 Good Design Award.’ LG Electronics previously received this award in 2012 for the LG Studio Built-in Appliances and in 2016 for the LG Studio InstaView Refrigerator. Since records began on the official Good Design Award website in 1996, LG Electronics is the only domestic electronics company to have won this award over the past 25 years.

‘LG SIGNATURE’ is an ultra-premium home appliance that features overwhelming performance achieved through technological innovation, refined design faithful to its essence, and intuitive usability never experienced before.

LG Electronics applied stainless steel to both the exterior and interior of the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar to highlight its refined design. Additionally, it features a Shiny Universe pattern that emits different light depending on the viewing angle, embodying a premium value that does not change over time.

The Wine Care System maintains optimal conditions for wine storage by controlling temperature within a 0.5-degree variance 24 hours a day, reproducing a cave-like winery environment to maintain ideal humidity, and minimizing vibrations using low-vibration technology. It can store up to 65 bottles of wine under these optimal conditions.

The product also includes an Auto Smart Door feature that allows customers to open the refrigerator’s upper door automatically using voice commands. After connecting the product to the LG ThinQ app via wireless internet, customers can say, “Hi LG, open the refrigerator door,” or simply place their foot near the sensor located at the bottom of the product to open the door.

This product is equipped with a Knock-On feature that turns on the interior light of the wine cellar by knocking twice on the door window. Customers can easily check the types and quantities of wine stored. This reduces the frequency of opening and closing the door, thereby minimizing cold air leakage compared to fully opening the door.

Customers can use the convertible drawer at the bottom flexibly as a refrigerator or freezer according to their needs. The Auto Lift function is convenient, as pressing a single button on the front of the product automatically opens the lower drawer and raises the storage space upward.

Meanwhile, the American Good Design Award is a global design award with a 70-year tradition since 1950. The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, together with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies, comprehensively evaluates manufacturers’ products based on design, innovation, sustainability, and creativity to select winners.
