[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Bae Mong-hee, Chairperson of the Hapcheon County Council in Gyeongnam, said in her New Year's message, "I wish everyone good health and a year filled with hope and happiness," and added, "I deeply appreciate the unwavering support and encouragement from the residents that have allowed the Hapcheon County Council to take a new leap forward."

The county experienced many difficulties due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which caused a global crisis in 2020.

Chairperson Bae stated, "Despite challenging conditions such as the August floods, we were able to faithfully carry out the county's immediate tasks and achieve various significant and minor accomplishments thanks to the generous advice and cooperation from the residents, as well as the passionate efforts of public officials and council members who did their best in their respective roles."

She continued, "As we welcome the Year of the White Ox, I promise to reflect on our original intentions, renew our determination, listen attentively even to the smallest voices from the grassroots, and strive to be a true representative preparing a new future for Hapcheon County."

Finally, Chairperson Bae concluded her New Year's message by saying, "With the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act passing the National Assembly plenary session on December 10, an important foundation has been laid for the realization of practical local autonomy," and added, "Democracy is realized through local autonomy and democracy based on the 'majority rule principle' by how much minority opinions are heard and reflected."
