Series of Fires in Residential Areas of Gangwon Amid Subzero Cold... No Casualties Reported

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Amid continued subzero cold, fires have occurred consecutively in residential areas of Gangwon Province.


According to Gangwon fire authorities on the 17th, a fire broke out around 5:05 a.m. at a single-family house in Hojeo-myeon, Wonju-si, Gangwon.


There were no casualties from the fire, but the 39㎡ house and household goods were destroyed, resulting in an estimated property damage of 1.37 million won according to the fire station.


The fire was extinguished at around 6:54 a.m., 1 hour and 48 minutes after the arrival of 10 fire trucks and 27 firefighters.


The fire authorities believe the fire was caused by sparks from a wood boiler and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.


Earlier on the same day, around 1:39 a.m., a fire broke out at a house in Yongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun.


The 62㎡ house was destroyed by the fire, but fortunately, there were no casualties. The fire was extinguished by firefighters dispatched within about an hour.
