[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is promoting the "Bangguseok Recycling" project to encourage proper recycling separation practices and to inform residents about correct recycling methods.

The district initiated this project to improve the current situation where high-quality recyclables are dependent on imports due to improper separation. Starting in December, mandatory scheduled disposal of plastic film and transparent PET bottles in apartment complexes will be enforced.

First, the district is implementing a program where residents can collect transparent PET bottles and exchange them for eco-friendly picnic bags at their local community centers.

This program runs until December 11, and residents who bring 40 transparent PET bottles, regardless of size, can exchange them on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to 30 people per community center.

The bags provided are made from recycled PET bottle yarn and can also be used as picnic mats, making them highly practical.

Additionally, due to the increase in packaging and delivery caused by the spread of COVID-19, an "Online Live Recycling Education" will be conducted to guide proper disposal of the increased waste.

The education sessions will be held three times on December 2, 8, and 10, covering topics such as ▲Ice pack recycling ▲Proper consumption and recycling separation ▲Plastic recycling processes.

Notably, the program includes making air fresheners using ice packs, whose usage has surged recently due to COVID-19, and aromatherapy sessions with pets, attracting attention.

Applications for the education can be made by searching "Bangguseok Recycling" on the Gwangjin-gu Office website and accessing the QR code. Participants in one session will receive an eco-friendly pet name tag made from recycled plastic, limited to the first 50 applicants. Those who attend all three sessions will be eligible for a picnic bag, limited to 70 people.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "With the increase in packaging and delivery due to COVID-19, waste disposal has become a major issue. This project will provide many residents with a detailed understanding of the confusing recycling separation methods. I hope that the small efforts of residents will come together to create a clean street environment."
