[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju announced on the 23rd that it presented a letter of appreciation to Woori Bank employee Mr. A for contributing to the prevention of voice phishing damage.
Mr. Jeong found it suspicious that Mr. B was trying to withdraw a large sum of money around 1:30 PM on the 18th and reported it to the bank's financial consumer team.
After receiving a response that it was suspected voice phishing, Mr. A confiscated Mr. B's bankbook and ID card and was able to prevent damage by reporting to 112.
At the time, it was known that Mr. B was deceived by a voice phishing scammer impersonating a prosecutor from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and attempted to withdraw 85 million won.
Investigation Chief Ko Inseok said, "In order to prevent voice phishing, which is rampant amid the poor economy due to COVID-19, active reporting by citizens is important."
