[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) is launching a ‘Mask Donation Campaign’ to protect the health and safety of its citizens from COVID-19.
The city plans to collect 1 million masks donated by various institutions, organizations, and companies by the end of the year and distribute them to 280,000 Suncheon citizens.
The donation campaign is a Suncheon-style civic movement practicing sharing to overcome the COVID-19 crisis. From March to September, it supported vulnerable groups with daily necessities, but this time it is being conducted as a mask donation campaign for all Suncheon citizens.
On the 20th, as the country’s first city to raise social distancing to Level 2, the city plans to provide some relief to citizens burdened by the cost of purchasing masks, which are now mandatory.
Additionally, masks will be placed at major tourist sites, public places, and public transportation facilities to help prevent the spread of infection within the region.
Anyone, including individuals and organizations, can participate in the mask donation campaign by contacting the Suncheon Volunteer Center or donating at donation boxes located at the city hall entrance and town and township civil service offices.
Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “I hope institutions, organizations, and citizens will join the mask donation campaign so that we can protect ourselves, our families, and our most precious people with masks, the strongest vaccine.”
