[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Kim Gun, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, will officially visit Myanmar for 2 nights and 3 days from the 24th to the 27th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 23rd.
Deputy Minister Kim is scheduled to attend the 2nd Korea-Myanmar Policy Consultation, meet with high-ranking Myanmar officials, hold meetings with Yangon regional government personnel, and participate in a roundtable with Korean companies operating there.
Marking the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Myanmar this year, Deputy Minister Kim's visit is expected to facilitate in-depth discussions on key practical cooperation projects between the two countries discussed at the two Korea-Myanmar summits held last year, COVID-19 related quarantine cooperation, challenges faced by Korean companies operating in Myanmar, and other major bilateral issues.
Furthermore, following the recent Korea-ASEAN Summit, this visit is expected to serve as an opportunity to discuss how to concretely develop future Korea-Myanmar relations in line with the Korean government's announced 'New Southern Policy Plus.'
