Choi In-ho: "People Power Party Threatening to Abandon Corruption Investigation Office, Hope They Regain Reason"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Choi In-ho, the chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea, warned the People Power Party on the 23rd, saying, "The People Power Party, which threatens to give up even the Livelihood National Assembly to block the launch of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (PCC), should come to their senses." The People Power Party had issued a statement the day before, saying, "We have endured and endured again. Now, if they want to abolish the system, we will do our utmost to block it," hinting at a boycott of the National Assembly.

In a statement on the morning of the same day, Chief Spokesperson Choi pointed out, "The phrase 'we have endured enough' should be said by the people and the Democratic Party, so I am at a loss as to what exactly the People Power Party claims to have endured."

He emphasized, "The main culprit who blocked the recommendation of the PCC chief candidate for over four months was the People Power Party," and added, "I cannot understand at all whether they mean they have endured the official declaration that the PCC cannot be established."

He continued, "The People Power Party also asked in their statement whether the PCC is an urgent matter that would stop the National Assembly. This reveals their true intentions," and stated, "It can only be seen as a threat to halt the Livelihood National Assembly responsible for legislation and budgeting, but if the PCC chief candidate is recommended, there will be no need to amend the law or stop the National Assembly."

He added, "All blame lies with the People Power Party, who are blocking the launch of the PCC, yet they deny this with a strained argument," and said, "I hope they keep in mind that the cause of the amendment to the PCC Act lies entirely with the People Power Party."
