[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] On the 21st(local time), more than 20 rockets were fired in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, resulting in at least 8 deaths and over 30 injuries.
According to foreign media including AFP, rockets were launched around 9 a.m. in several areas including residential neighborhoods in northern and central Kabul. Tariq Arian, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, stated, "Terrorists fired 23 rockets in Kabul city," adding, "Unfortunately, the rockets struck residential areas."
The terrorists fired rockets from two small trucks at different locations. The current casualty count from this rocket attack is 8 dead and 31 injured, but the numbers may increase. The rockets also hit areas near the 'Green Zone,' where various embassies and global companies are located in Kabul.
Local media reported that before the rocket launch, bombs exploded in two vehicles in Kabul city. One person died and three were injured in the vehicle bomb attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The Taliban, who signed a peace agreement with the United States in February, began peace talks with the Afghan government in Doha, Qatar, on September 12, but there has been no progress. The U.S. Department of State announced that Secretary Mike Pompeo, currently touring Europe and the Middle East, is scheduled to meet separately with the Taliban and Afghan government negotiation teams in Doha, Qatar, on the same day.
