[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Masatoshi Koshiba, a veteran Japanese physicist at the University of Tokyo who observed the elementary particle "neutrino," known as a mysterious particle, passed away on the night of the 12th.

According to Japan's NHK, Professor Koshiba passed away at a hospital in Tokyo due to an illness. He was 94 years old.

Professor Koshiba was from Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and graduated from the Faculty of Science at the University of Tokyo. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2002 in recognition of his discovery of neutrinos in 1987 and other contributions.

Professor Koshiba, wishing to contribute to basic science in Japan, established foundations for basic science and held science classes for high school and university students.
