Bernhard Langer (Germany), the 'oldest competitor at 63,' sparked a sensation by shooting 3-under-par over the first 10 holes on the opening day of the Masters, held on the 13th (Korean time) at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA (par 72, 7,475 yards). Having won this tournament twice, in 1985 and 1993, he participated as a past champion. With some players' rounds postponed due to bad weather, Langer stands tied for 13th, four strokes behind the leader Paul Casey (England, 7-under-par).

Langer carded four birdies and one bogey. Starting at the 10th hole (par 4), he was disappointed by a bogey at the 'heart of Amen Corner,' the 12th hole (par 3), but immediately recovered with a birdie at the 13th hole (par 5). He added consecutive birdies on the 15th and 16th holes, and another birdie on the back nine's first hole (par 4). Larry Mize (USA), one year younger than Langer and the '1987 champion,' also showed veteran spirit by posting six birdies (four bogeys) including three consecutive birdies from holes 2 to 4, finishing tied for 21st at 2-under-par.

Mize is notably a native of Augusta. He commented, "My family and friends must have been happy watching online," adding, "It's always enjoyable to see my name climb up the leaderboard." Relatively younger but still experienced, Lee Westwood (England), aged 47, is tied for 5th at 4-under-par. He remarked, "Augusta National definitely has a clear winning strategy," adding, "It's something you can only learn through practical experience."
