[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 13th that from the 16th to the 22nd, a 7-day "Gyeongnam Excellent Agricultural and Food Products Promotion and Sales Event" will be held in Tokyo, Japan, with the participation of 12 local companies.
Despite the deterioration of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, demand for Korean cuisine remains strong. Changes in consumer patterns triggered by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have led to increased international trust in the K brand, positively contributing to the expansion of exports of Korean agricultural and food products.
Additionally, the Japanese food market has seen a rapid increase in demand for health-related functional processed foods due to the impact of COVID-19. With abnormal weather conditions such as typhoons and low temperatures reducing the price stability of domestic agricultural products, the import and substitute markets are gradually expanding.
This event will be held simultaneously at three locations with high foot traffic?Aisan Market, Seoul Market, and Chonggakne?featuring 17 items produced by 12 local companies. The Tokyo office in Japan and the Korea Agricultural and Food Products Association in Japan will provide support.
In particular, the event plans to focus promotion on elderly consumers with high health interest and small family units, aiming to sell all the excellent food agricultural products produced in the province.
Jung Tae-ho, Director of Agricultural and Food Distribution at Gyeongsangnam-do, stated, "Due to the spread of COVID-19, demand for health functional foods related to immunity enhancement is rapidly increasing in Japan, so it is necessary to focus on fostering functional, high-quality, and safe food products." He added, "We will strengthen our position in key export markets through promotion, marketing, and product development reflecting the market situation of local agricultural and food processing export companies."
