원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The incident involving a man in his 40s wielding a weapon and threatening to jump in Busan ended after about 3 hours and 30 minutes with a police operation described as "lightning-fast."
The Busan police violent crime unit forcibly opened the entrance door on the 4th floor of an officetel in Dangni-dong, Saha-gu, Busan, at around 9:05 a.m. on the 13th, entered the premises, and used a taser gun to make Mr. A, who was perched on the windowsill, fall outside.
Police and firefighters safely rescued Mr. A, who landed on an air mattress that had been pre-installed.
The police explained that the operation was pre-planned and proceeded swiftly without giving Mr. A, who was holding a weapon, any chance to react. Mr. A had already inflicted several self-inflicted wounds on his side with the weapon he was holding.
Earlier, police and firefighters had been in a standoff for over three hours trying to prevent Mr. A from jumping.
According to the Saha Police Station in Busan, police responded to a 112 emergency call at around 5:40 a.m. on the 13th. Upon arrival, they found Mr. A sitting on the windowsill on the 4th floor of a seven-story officetel building in Dangni-dong, Saha-gu, having inflicted several self-harm wounds with a weapon.
The police had initially responded to a 112 call reporting "someone is following me," but upon arrival at the scene, they found Mr. A on the 4th floor holding two weapons.
The responding officers set up a police line at the scene and urgently requested the fire department to install a safety mattress to prevent injury from a potential jump.
The chief of Saha Police Station personally directed the operation, and the Busan Police Agency’s crisis negotiation team and special police forces were also dispatched.
At the scene, 29 police officers and 12 firefighters were on standby, focusing on preventing Mr. A’s jump by deploying negotiators and special forces.
Mr. A is currently under investigation following a voluntary accompaniment.
