Hyundai Motor Group Ranks First for 5 Consecutive Years in CSR Evaluation of Chinese Companies

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 13th that it was selected as the No. 1 automotive company for five consecutive years in the '2020 China Corporate Social Responsibility Development Index Evaluation' published by the CSR Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Development Index is the most authoritative CSR evaluation index in China. It is an annual ranking based on a comprehensive evaluation of market, environmental, social responsibility, and responsibility management for 300 companies selected by the CSR Research Center affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, considering factors such as corporate sales, brand, and influence.

Hyundai Motor Group has ranked first among automotive companies and second among foreign-invested companies for five consecutive years since 2016. It also ranked 4th overall this year, following last year, recognizing its social responsibility management and transparency in information disclosure. In particular, its social contribution activities, which quickly provided support amid the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) earlier this year, were highly evaluated.

In January, Hyundai Motor Group was the first Korean company to decide on support to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in China and help residents in affected areas recover, donating medical supplies and funds.

In addition, despite restricted mobility in July, the group conducted the 'Dream Classroom' project in an untact manner, providing teaching materials and scholarships to students in underdeveloped areas. In September, Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing held an art exhibition for children with cerebral palsy and supported fundraising activities, continuing its social contribution efforts.

A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "The good results in the Corporate Social Responsibility Development Index reflect the recognition from the Chinese government and society of Hyundai Motor Group’s sincerity in leading support to overcome COVID-19 and continuously carrying out social contribution projects for over 10 years."

In July, Hyundai Motor Group was the only automotive company to receive the '5-Star Plus' rating in the social responsibility report evaluation announced by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, achieving the highest rating for five consecutive years. Additionally, it won the 'Excellent Responsibility Enterprise Award' selected by the China CSR White Paper Forum for two consecutive years, and was also selected as the 'Responsible Enterprise of the Year' at the China CSR International Forum hosted by China News Agency, as well as the 'CSR Brand of the Year' and 'COVID-19 Prevention Support' awards in the CSR education category hosted by the China Education Alliance.
