On the 12th, KBS News reported a case where a person was arrested on the spot for participating in voice phishing after getting a job through a well-known domestic job search website.
According to KBS, a university student on leave, Mr. A, applied after seeing a job advertisement from a security company, but on the day of employment, the company representative changed the story and said it was a loan company. He then instructed Mr. A to collect money lent to customers, promising to pay 100,000 won per day.
On his first day of work, Mr. A was arrested by the police while transferring about 14 million won received from people posing as customers in Cheonan and Daejeon to the company.
It turned out that the company was a voice phishing gang, and the job advertisement was fake, only borrowing the company’s name.
In May, Mr. B (42), who got a job at a construction company through another job search website, suffered the same damage.
Mr. B was also arrested on the spot by the police while working under instructions to collect payment for materials.
Job search websites are being exploited as a means to recruit intermediaries for voice phishing.
The police advised, "Even if you unknowingly participate in the crime, it can later be punished as aiding and abetting other crimes, so you should report to investigative authorities as soon as you realize it." They also urged suspicion if the pay is excessively high compared to the work or if the job content suddenly changes.
