[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Reports have emerged that U.S. President Donald Trump, who is contesting the presidential election results, is planning to launch an internet news media outlet.
Amid reports that President Trump may declare his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election within this year, this move is seen as a sign of preparing for four years ahead through the establishment of a pro-Trump media outlet.
The U.S. internet media Axios reported on the 12th (local time) that President Trump expressed to his close aides his intention to launch a news organization that would represent him, replacing Fox News.
Axios explained that Trump’s close aides are suggesting that the relationship with Fox News, which has deteriorated around the election period, should be resolved.
Fox News has faithfully played the role of a conservative media outlet representing President Trump, but recently it has drawn a line in its relationship with him. Fox News reportedly angered President Trump by forecasting the victory of President-elect Joe Biden in Arizona while vote counting was still underway during the election coverage.
President Trump is said to be interested in establishing a media outlet that broadcasts via the internet instead of cable broadcasting, which requires significant costs and time to launch.
The broadcasting costs are planned to be covered by monthly subscription fees from Trump supporters. The calculation is that securing just these viewers, most of whom are Fox News viewers, would be enough to cover the costs and deliver a decisive blow to Fox News.
Axios reported that President Trump expects to secure a large number of viewers by utilizing the personal information of supporters gathered during the election period.
A major foreign news outlet has attracted attention by reporting that President Trump will declare his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election within this year. The outlet also evaluated that President Trump’s recent statement supporting the reappointment of Ronna McDaniel, the Republican National Committee Chairwoman, is a move with the next election in mind.
