Repeated Emphasis on the Implementation of the 'Muan International Airport Revitalization Agreement'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] In response to the announcement of the public opinion survey results regarding the relocation of the civilian airport by the Citizens' Rights Committee on the 11th, the Muan International Airport Revitalization Promotion Committee (Chairman Park Il-sang) reiterated its stance urging the implementation of the Muan International Airport revitalization agreement.

In August 2018, Muan County, Jeonnam Province, and Gwangju City signed a win-win agreement centered on "unconditionally integrating Gwangju civilian airport into Muan International Airport by 2021."

However, as the civilian airport integration deadline approaches next year, a public opinion has recently emerged in Gwangju that the civilian airport cannot be transferred without relocating the military airport.

Accordingly, the Gwangju Citizens' Rights Committee conducted a public opinion survey from the 30th of last month to the 8th of this month, asking 2,500 Gwangju citizens whether to reconsider the relocation of the civilian airport, and announced the results today.

As the results showed opposition to the prior transfer of the civilian airport without relocating the military airport, as the Jeonnam local community had feared, the Muan International Airport Revitalization Promotion Committee emphasized once again that "it is time to show Gwangju's actions, not just words," urging the implementation of the integration procedures.
