[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Singer Yoo Seung-jun (American name Steve Seung-jun Yoo) publicly targeted a netizen who sent a message opposing his entry into the country.
On the 10th, Yoo Seung-jun revealed the contents of a DM (direct message) sent by a netizen on his Instagram.
In the disclosed DM, the netizen said to Yoo Seung-jun, "Enough already. Don’t turn all the good memories from my childhood into trash and just live quietly. No matter what you do, your entry approval won’t happen, and honestly, there’s no hope."
The netizen added, "Restrain yourself and live quietly with your eyes closed. What benefit do you get from this? Don’t deny reality. Can’t you see the public opinion? Trying to stir up trouble like this only ruins your image. I don’t know if you have any more image left to ruin."
Finally, the netizen said, "Please consider this as sincere advice for the older brother who was my idol when I was young."
After capturing this message, Yoo Seung-jun posted it with the comment, "Baby, you’re noisy."
About an hour later, Yoo Seung-jun also shared messages supporting him, saying, "Thank you. I get more DMs like this." In one of the messages, another netizen wrote, "Just ignore people like this. There are many more fans waiting for you."
Previously, Yoo Seung-jun left for the United States ahead of his military enlistment in 2002, renounced his Korean citizenship, and acquired U.S. citizenship. Subsequently, at the request of the Military Manpower Administration, he was denied entry by the government and has been unable to visit Korea for 19 years.
On the 27th of last month, Yoo Seung-jun posted on Instagram appealing for entry permission, stating that "indefinite entry ban is a human rights violation," but Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa said at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ parliamentary audit, "It has been decided not to allow visa issuance."
Meanwhile, Yoo Seung-jun debuted in 1997 with the song "Scissors" and was active as one of the top dance singers in Korea, releasing songs such as "Na Na Na" and "Passion."
