[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 10th, “We will provide policy support from the perspective of regional coexistence for issues that need to be resolved through consultation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the central government, including the relocation of the Seoul Metropolitan Landfill,” adding, “There are indeed some shortcomings in the connectivity of many transportation infrastructure private investment projects and internal transportation networks in Incheon, and we will seek directions that respond to Incheon’s urban development and improve citizen convenience through the restructuring of these projects.”
At the People Power Party’s Incheon Budget Policy Council held at the National Assembly on the same day, Floor Leader Joo said, “Incheon is a metropolitan city with a population of 3 million and is geographically adjacent to Seoul, thus classified as part of the metropolitan area, but it does not receive proper treatment,” adding, “Although all transportation infrastructure is in place, there is some regret that it is essentially limited to serving as a gateway to Seoul and the metropolitan area.”
Lee Jong-bae, chairman of the People Power Party’s Policy Committee, said, “Incheon also plays a very important role in national security,” and added, “The first proposal made by Park Nam-chun, mayor of Incheon, was the establishment of an infectious disease specialized hospital. Since there are quite a number of foreigners, we will carefully review whether this is something essential for Incheon.”
Mayor Park said, “The fact that the People Power Party held a council to manage regional budgets beyond party lines will be seen by the public as a good example of cooperation,” and added, “I hope that today’s discussion will be a starting point for solving many difficult problems in Incheon.”
