[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 10th that Narae Foods Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Geum-jin) signed a $2 million export agreement with Aisan Co., Ltd. (Chairman Jang Young-sik), the operator of the Jeonnam agricultural and marine products permanent sales center in Japan (Tokyo), to promote local specialty products.
The agreement ceremony was held at Narae Foods Co., Ltd. located in Pyeongsa-ri, Dolsan-eup, with about 30 attendees including Chairman Jang Young-sik and Korea Branch Manager Kim Hyun-tae of Aisan Co., Ltd., and CEO Park Min-su of Maru Co., Ltd., showing interest in Yeosu-made seasoned salted seafood products.
Narae Foods Co., Ltd., which discovered and commercialized traditional manufacturing methods for salted seafood and pickled side dishes, has been designated as a traditional food processing company by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry since 1996, producing salted seafood such as myeongran (pollock roe), changran (salted pollock roe), squid, as well as perilla leaves, chili peppers, and dried radish strips.
The company exports to 11 regions in 5 countries including the United States, China, and Taiwan, as well as supplying major domestic supermarkets, achieving sales of over 5.6 billion KRW last year, leading the way in promoting the flavors of the southern provinces worldwide.
Through this export agreement, the products are scheduled to be launched on the 26th at YES Mart in Tokyo, a permanent sales center for Jeonnam products in Japan, with plans to expand sales channels to 14 regions in 7 countries within the year.
Kim Geum-jin, CEO of Narae Foods Co., Ltd., said, “We are grateful to Jeollanam-do for planning and supporting our entry into the permanent sales center in Japan, rather than one-time promotional events,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the position and competitiveness of Yeosu specialty products not only in the domestic market but also overseas, and lead the revitalization of the local economy through continuous contract cultivation of agricultural and marine products with local farmers and fishermen.”
Meanwhile, Aisan Co., Ltd., founded in Japan by Chairman Jang Young-sik, ranks first in the Japanese duty-free store industry and generates sales of $250 million through duty-free, trade, and tourism businesses.
