[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, inspected the purchase site of ‘public stockpiled rice’.

According to Jeonnam Province on the 10th, Governor Kim visited the public stockpiled rice purchase site in Gunseo-myeon, Yeongam-gun, to encourage farmers who worked hard to produce rice despite difficult weather conditions.

This year, the planned purchase volume of public stockpiled rice in Jeonnam is 123,000 tons of rice, accounting for 25.4% of the national total of 486,000 tons.

This volume is 4% more than the 21.5% rice cultivation area.

The purchase of public stockpiled rice will continue until the end of the year, and farmers must dry the rice to a moisture content level of 13% to 15% based on bagged rice to receive a high grade.

So far, about 16% of the planned purchase volume in Jeonnam has been procured, mainly in the form of paddy rice.

The purchase price of public stockpiled rice is based on the nationwide average farm-gate rice price during the harvest season (October to December), converted to rice. Last year, 65,750 KRW was paid per 40kg bag for first-grade rice.

This year, 30,000 KRW per 40kg bag will be paid in advance immediately after purchase, and the remainder will be paid by the end of the year after the final purchase price is confirmed.

Governor Kim said, “Although production decreased due to typhoon-related damage this year, the grade is relatively good, which is fortunate. Considering the difficult conditions of rice farmers, we will do our best to promote provincial administration for management stability, such as paying disaster insurance premiums.”
