[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Hana Capital announced on the 10th that it plans to issue 300 billion KRW worth of 'Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) bonds' to fulfill its responsibilities as a social enterprise.

ESG bonds are bonds that raise funds used for investments in eco-friendly facilities including renewable energy, support for small and medium-sized enterprises and vulnerable groups, and social support projects. Domestic ESG investors such as pension funds and ESG funds participated in this Hana Capital issuance.

To issue ESG bonds, Hana Capital obtained ESG bond management system certification from Deloitte Anjin Accounting Corporation, an ESG qualification certification body. Of the 300 billion KRW ESG bonds issued by Hana Capital, more than 220 billion KRW will be concentrated on maturities of over three years.

Hana Capital became a 100% subsidiary of Hana Financial Group in February 2018 and increased its capital by 200 billion KRW in March 2019, surpassing 1 trillion KRW in equity capital. Recently, it has expanded beyond providing financial products for eco-friendly transportation related to its core business to supporting youth support projects and venture company projects. Going forward, it plans to strategically expand related investments through this ESG bond issuance.

A Hana Capital official stated, "By utilizing the funds raised through this ESG bond issuance, we aim to create public value and diversify our business, and we will continue to accelerate ESG management."
