원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] The leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea viewed the Green New Deal policy promoted by the government and ruling party as a great opportunity due to 'Bidenomics.'
Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, said at the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 10th regarding U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, "One of the key keywords of Bidenomics is the expansion of eco-friendliness," adding, "The fact that major countries around the world, including the U.S., are pursuing a low-carbon economy will be a great opportunity for the Green New Deal we are promoting."
He continued, "It is time for the government, private sector, and both ruling and opposition parties to come together with wisdom and cooperate in the transition to a low-carbon economy," emphasizing, "The Democratic Party will do its best to create an opportunity for Korea's leap forward through a low-carbon economy."
Han Jeong-ae, chairperson of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee, also said, "The pledges announced so far by President-elect Biden align with the important policies of our party."
She added, "The bills prepared by the Moon Jae-in administration and the ruling party ahead of the regular National Assembly session, led by the Korean New Deal and the Fair Economy Three Acts, aim to proactively respond to climate change and create a healthier economic ecosystem," and said, "We hope the opposition party will cooperate with a bipartisan attitude prioritizing national interests to timely respond to these changes by passing this budget and bills."
Moon Jin-seok, deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party, said, "The President-elect's promises to rejoin the Korea-Japan Climate Agreement, expand carbon-neutral renewable energy, and respond to the climate crisis are positive aspects connected to our Green New Deal policy," emphasizing, "The National Assembly must take the lead to strengthen the Korea-U.S. alliance beyond security into economic and environmental fields."
