[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) operates the ‘Visiting Pet Dog Home Class,’ where experts visit homes directly to provide one-on-one customized training for dogs with behavioral problems.
As the pet dog population rapidly increases, more owners are experiencing difficulties due to their dogs' problematic behaviors, which have escalated into social issues including conflicts with neighbors.
In response, the district previously ran a ‘Pet Behavior Correction Program’ offering one-on-one customized behavioral correction solutions at professional training institutions. This time, it provides tailored administrative correction training through a home-visit expert system.
The ‘Visiting Pet Dog Home Class’ is conducted one-on-one for about 90 minutes with 15 selected households. An animal behavior expert visits households struggling with noise issues, conducts individual consultations, analyzes problems, and provides behavior correction and hands-on training tailored to the pet dog and owner.
Applications for the training can be submitted online via the Seongdong-gu Office website until the 13th. Among households consenting to video recording, participants will be randomly selected through a computerized draw. Training sessions will be scheduled once per household on Thursdays between November 19 and December 17.
The training is free of charge and open to any local pet-owning household experiencing difficulties due to pet dog noise.
Additionally, the district operates a ‘Free Pet Consultation Room’ within the district office, where veterinarians provide simple visual examinations and palpation-based health consultations. It also offers ‘Pet Dog Walking Manners Education’ to teach proper walking etiquette to pet owners and their dogs, and runs various animal welfare projects such as the ‘Petiquette Campaign with Animal Protection Honorary Monitors’ to promote welfare culture.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “With the rapid increase in pet-owning households, conflicts among residents due to pets and social issues such as animal abandonment are rising. We will strive to spread a proper pet culture by implementing diverse pet policies so that both pet owners and non-pet owners can enjoy a happy life together.”
