Haenam-gun Receives Strong Response to Regional Agricultural Machinery Rental Centers

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, is seeing remarkable results in expanding agricultural machinery rental centers, which have received great responses from farmers due to the ability to rent agricultural machinery at affordable prices.

According to Haenam-gun on the 5th, the opening ceremony of the Northern Agricultural Machinery Rental Center in Geumsong-ri, Sanim-myeon was held on the 4th.

The Northern Agricultural Machinery Rental Center, with a total investment of 1.7 billion KRW including national, provincial, and county funds, is equipped with facilities such as an office and agricultural machinery storage warehouse, and operates 116 rental agricultural machines of 25 types including agricultural excavators, manure spreaders, plows, and harvesters.

The facility was completed and began operation in March, and the opening ceremony was held this time to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to review the operational status.

With the opening of the Northern Center, accessibility has been dramatically improved for areas such as San-i, Hwangsan, and Masan, which previously had to use the main agricultural machinery rental center in Haenam-eup or the Western Center in Munnae-myeon, effectively resolving inconveniences for farmers.

In particular, Haenam-gun started the agricultural machinery rental business in 2005 at the main center within the Haenam-eup Agricultural Technology Center, and following the opening of the Western Center in 2010 and the Southern Center in 2015, the Northern Center was opened this year, establishing four regional agricultural machinery rental centers.

Next year, a new Eastern Agricultural Machinery Rental Center will be constructed and scheduled to open in the second half of the year to serve farmers in the Okcheon and Gyegok areas, completing the establishment of five regional agricultural machinery rental centers across the county.

The agricultural machinery rental centers reduce the cost of purchasing expensive agricultural machinery and solve labor shortages caused by rising labor costs, gaining great support from farming households.

Following last year's rental record of 4,835 farms and 7,495 rental days, as of the 30th of last month, 4,770 farms have rented machinery for 7,470 days this year, showing steady growth every year.

County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “With the establishment of the fourth agricultural machinery rental center in the Haenam area, the construction of regional centers, one of the major pledges of the 7th local government, has entered its completion stage,” and added, “We will continue to expand follow-up projects to reduce agricultural management costs.”
