Yonsei University Hosts 'Youth Social Participation Presentation Contest' Proposing Solutions to Social Issues

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Yonsei University will jointly host the 11th Youth Social Participation Presentation Contest on the 7th with the Democracy Movement Commemoration Association.

This contest introduces the democratic citizenship education program "Project Citizen," developed by the Center for Civic Education in the United States, to Korea. It is a method where youth identify and analyze local issues and propose alternative policies.

This year, a total of 11 teams advanced to the finals, with 69 participants presenting in the final competition. The contest will be held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Various ideas will be presented, ranging from policy proposals reflecting the COVID-19 pandemic situation, analyses of the population structure and urban characteristics of their local areas, awareness improvement policies for out-of-school youth, to proposals aimed at bridging language gaps among multicultural youth.

Based on the judging results, awards such as the Speaker of the National Assembly Award, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award, Minister of the Interior and Safety Award, Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award, Yonsei University President Award, and Metropolitan and Provincial Office of Education Superintendent Award will be given. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award will also be presented to outstanding teachers who supported youth activities.
