[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The largest comprehensive cultural content exhibition in Korea, the ‘2020 Gwangju ACE Fair (Asia Content & Entertainment Fair),’ opened on the morning of the 5th at the Gwangju Kim Dae-jung Convention Center. This exhibition will run until the 8th.

The opening ceremony proceeded in the order of the opening declaration by Joo Jeong-min, Chairman of the 2020 Gwangju ACE Fair Promotion Committee, a welcome speech by Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, a congratulatory address by Kim Yong-jip, Chairman of the Gwangju City Council, an opening performance, and a tour of the exhibition hall.

Mayor Lee Yong-seop stated, “The cultural content industry is a field that enriches and makes our lives more convenient through convergence with new technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as 5G communication, artificial intelligence, and big data,” adding, “We will accelerate efforts to develop Gwangju’s cultural content industry as a core growth engine alongside artificial intelligence to prepare future food sources.”

This event, with participation from 283 companies and 335 booths, was held under the theme “Opening a New Era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5th Generation Mobile Communication (5G), and New Content!” and featured various programs including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), holograms, broadcasting, characters, animation, and games.

Additionally, due to difficulties in participation caused by COVID-19, an online business consultation meeting for export consultations and investment attraction was held targeting overseas companies and buyers. At the ‘2019 Gwangju ACE Fair’ last year, approximately KRW 380 billion worth of consultations and KRW 23 billion worth of on-site contracts were concluded through 2,284 business consultations.

As a side event, the ‘Internet Video Service (OTT) Industry and Market Forum’ was held, where 16 speakers from five countries including the United States, France, Japan, and Taiwan participated online to share information on the prospects of the global internet video service industry and strategies for fostering response measures.

In the keynote speech, Ko Sam-seok, former standing commissioner of the Korea Communications Commission, emphasized innovation and institutional improvements to secure the global competitiveness of domestic content companies amid the rapid encroachment of multinational internet video service companies such as Netflix into the domestic market.

At this event, the AI-based access control quarantine system developed by the Gwangju-based company ‘NETON’ was introduced, attracting attention for holding a safe exhibition from COVID-19.

The artificial intelligence controls access by determining whether entrants are wearing masks, their body temperature status, and whether they are wearing barcode access passes containing personal information.
