[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Authorities are on high alert as additional confirmed cases from secondary infections continue to emerge related to a family of five living in Changwon, Gyeongnam, who were collectively infected.

On the 5th, Gyeongnam Province announced in a COVID-19 response briefing that a woman in her 60s (Gyeongnam case 327) and three women in their 50s (cases 328?330), all residing in Changwon, tested positive.

Additionally, six more cases were confirmed: a man in his 60s (331), a man in his 80s (332), a woman in her 70s (333), a man in his 60s (334), and two women in their 50s (335?336), all residents of Changwon.

Cases 327 and 330 had contact with a man in his 50s (case 322), the father in the family who was confirmed positive the previous day. Case 327 is the spouse of case 331, and case 330 attended a wedding hall in Changwon on the 25th of last month together with the man in his 50s.

Cases 328 and 329 were identified as having dined with the man in his 50s and his wife (case 323). They are reported to be relatives or acquaintances of the couple in their 50s.

Among the six newly confirmed cases, five (cases 332?335) were linked to the man in his 50s who attended a family ancestral rite gathering at his parents’ home on the 25th of last month and was confirmed positive.

It is known that 16 people attended the ancestral rite on that day, including the already confirmed family of five. Case 336 is an acquaintance of the man in his 50s and was briefly met in front of his house on the 25th of last month.

The total number of confirmed cases related to the Changwon family has now risen to 15.

In Sacheon, a man in his 60s (case 326) who had contact with a confirmed case from Songpa-gu, Seoul (Songpa case 423) tested positive. Case 326 has five contacts, and further movement paths and contacts are under epidemiological investigation.

As of the morning of the 5th, quarantine authorities are testing 1,328 contacts and individuals exposed to the movement paths related to the Changwon family cases.

No positive cases have been found among students and staff at the high school attended by the teenage son (case 321).

However, since the man in his 50s had cold symptoms starting from the 27th of last month and has many movement paths and contacts with employees of a large corporation where he works, the possibility of additional confirmed cases is not small.

Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has increased to 333. Of these, 299 have fully recovered and been discharged, and 34 remain hospitalized.
