In this evaluation, Gangnam-gu was recognized for its full efforts to create a city culture of reading books through various programs such as supporting reading clubs and hosting book concerts, after establishing the dedicated library department ‘Book Reading City Team’ last year.
Gangnam-gu Nonhyeon Library received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award for transforming into a media-specialized library accessible to all residents by producing diverse content, including launching the children’s book podcast ‘Gonggam BOOKppang,’ which provides recommended books, impressions, and recordings of readings.
The ‘National Library Operation Evaluation’ is a project conducted by the Library Information Policy Committee under the President and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to discover excellent libraries and establish an effective library policy system.
This year, 2,309 libraries nationwide competed, and after quantitative and qualitative evaluations and on-site inspections, a total of 55 institutions were finally selected.
In response to the ‘Ontact’ era, the district is leading efforts to provide various online reading culture programs such as SNS-based book curation and podcast operation so that residents can enjoy library services from home.
