[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is making every effort to disinfect major subway stations by utilizing participants in the local job project recruited to overcome COVID-19.

In October, the district selected 180 people for the 'COVID-19 Overcome Local Job Project,' targeting vulnerable employment groups, the unemployed due to COVID-19, and those on leave or who have closed their businesses.

This local job project runs for two months from October 29 to December 27, with participants assigned to various locations within the district to carry out local disinfection activities, environmental maintenance, and facility management to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In particular, the district has deployed a total of 30 subway disinfection team members, with 10 each at Sillim Station, Seoul National University Entrance Station, and Sadang Station, which have high foot traffic, taking the lead in local disinfection efforts.

The subway disinfection team conducts surface disinfection by wiping chairs, elevator buttons, escalator handrails, and other areas frequently touched by people with cloths soaked in disinfectant, making various efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the district has significantly expanded its public job projects this year, recruiting about 2,400 people in total, including 425 for public work, 1,713 for hope jobs, and 190 for local community and livelihood stabilization jobs, implementing various job projects to support residents facing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.

Mayor Park Junhee said, “We have deployed disinfection personnel at three stations with high foot traffic to ensure thorough local disinfection and prevent the spread of COVID-19. We will do our utmost to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission as soon as possible and return to daily life.”
