[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) announced on the 8th that it signed a business agreement with Wando County to establish an industry-academia cooperation system for the successful hosting of the ‘2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo’ and the promotion of the marine healing industry.
This business agreement was signed to △ successfully host the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo △ promote the marine healing industry and activate human exchange △ revitalize industry-academia cooperation for talent development and regional community advancement.
The agreement was signed online using a video conferencing program in the university headquarters’ conference room in line with the untact era brought by COVID-19, and the two institutions exchanged pre-signed business agreement documents.
Suncheon National University President Ko Young-jin said, “The past research achievements between the university and the county have served as a catalyst leading to this agreement.” He added, “Taking this business agreement as an opportunity, we will actively utilize the university’s abundant human resources through continuous friendly exchanges with Wando County to ensure the successful hosting of the ‘2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo’ and promote the seaweed industry, while also supporting the activation of related research fields.”
In fact, since 2015, Suncheon National University has achieved remarkable results through eight projects conducted with Wando County, including ‘Research on seafood and tidal flat utilization’ and ‘Research on agricultural organisms and crops.’ In particular, the ongoing ‘Study on the nutritional relationship between maekbanseok (basalt) and seafood’ (Principal Investigator Professor Kim Jung-bin) is evaluated to form a foundation for revitalizing the marine healing industry.
Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor, responded, “Our county and Suncheon National University have built a good relationship through industry-academia cooperation projects.” He added, “We ask for your cooperation so that university students in related fields, who will become important talents in the new marine era of the 21st century, can actively participate in the expo.”
Meanwhile, the Wando International Seaweed Expo is an international event held on the theme of seaweed. Having received international event approval for three consecutive times in 2014, 2017, and now, it is scheduled to be held from April 23 to May 16, 2021, around Wando Port under the theme ‘Sea of Healing, the Future of Hope Opened by Seaweed.’ It is expected to present the future vision of the seaweed industry by converging and integrating various industries such as bio, medicine, beauty, and energy based on seaweed with the 4th industrial revolution.
