[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is constructing an Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center for the transmission and preservation management of intangible cultural heritage skills and arts.

The city announced on the 14th that it was finally selected for the Cultural Heritage Administration's '2021 Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center Construction Support Project' and secured 4 billion KRW in national funding.

As a campaign promise of the 7th local government, the city has been promoting the construction of a complex space that can encompass all local intangible cultural heritages (Sugeon Dance, Jeongeup Nongak, Pansori, Traditional Liquor Brewing, Instrument Making).

To build the 'Intangible Cultural Heritage Complex Transmission Education Center,' the city focused on securing feasibility and actively conveyed the necessity of the project through close cooperation with Jeonbuk Province, resulting in final selection for this public contest project.

The complex transmission education center, with a total project cost of 8 billion KRW (4 billion KRW national funding, 1.2 billion KRW provincial funding, 2.8 billion KRW city funding), is planned to be completed by 2023.

The city plans to finalize the project site within this year and create a space specialized in supporting intangible cultural heritage by developing cultural infrastructure and living convenience facilities together.

In particular, it will be established as a complex cultural space that systematically supports education, exhibition, experience, and performance of local intangible cultural heritage and contributes to popularizing cultural heritage and developing tourism resources.

Once the education center is completed, it is expected to improve the working environment of skill holders, activate the transmission and preservation functions of intangible cultural heritage, and secure exhibition space for works.

It is also expected to contribute to the development of provincially designated intangible cultural heritage into nationally designated intangible cultural heritage and motivate the discovery of new intangible cultural heritage.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "With a systematic transmission education system secured for the preservation management and successor training of local intangible cultural heritage, it is expected to greatly help continue the tradition and pass on precious cultural heritage."
