[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 28th that it will invest a budget of 1.4 billion KRW to promote the 'Edutech Mentoring' project, focusing on 124 middle schools, amid concerns about learning loss among vulnerable students due to remote classes in the first semester caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The 'Edutech Mentoring Project' is a program that assigns one mentor to every 10 to 20 vulnerable students, providing intensive support such as self-directed learning methods and supplementary lessons in weak subjects using the latest edutech apps. This project includes 1.03 billion KRW for edutech mentor personnel expenses and 370 million KRW for learning vouchers.
Superintendent Kang Eun-hee stated, "This is a very meaningful project in terms of public-private cooperation, as it creates jobs while supporting vulnerable students by utilizing excellent private edutech apps," adding, "We will make every effort to ensure that the mentoring project linked to edutech-based education can provide practical help to vulnerable students."
