[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Yang Hyang-ja, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Seo-gu Eul), officially requested that the upcoming summit discuss including both the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement and the Daegu 2·28 Democratization Movement in the Constitution.
Rep. Yang said, “Kim Jong-in knelt before the spirits of May Gwangju. This was unimaginable during Hwang Kyo-ahn’s leadership,” and added, “I applaud the changes in the United Future Party.”
She continued, “Since change is underway, let’s move forward decisively,” and requested, “With the summit between President Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-in confirmed, please discuss including both Gwangju 5·18 and Daegu 2·28 in the preamble of the Constitution at that meeting.”
She also emphasized, “The United Future Party has changed its policy platform and its leadership even knelt, so there is absolutely no reason not to include 5·18 and 2·28 in the constitutional preamble,” and said, “I believe Kim Jong-in’s words asking for forgiveness before the citizens of Gwangju are sincere.”
She added, “I hope that, so our descendants can deeply feel this sincerity for generations, the opportunity for constitutional amendment will be openly and sincerely initiated,” and stated, “I earnestly ask Kim to open the path for the Moonlight Alliance to advance into a constitutional alliance.”
