Pukyong National University Continues to Open the Way for Producing Master's and Doctoral Graduates

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A total of 11 education and research groups (teams) from Pukyong National University were selected for the Brain Korea (BK) 21 project, a graduate school support program.

According to the preliminary selection results of the 4th phase BK21 project announced on the 6th by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, Pukyong National University was listed with 9 education and research groups and 2 education and research teams, totaling 11 groups (teams).

The BK21 project is a program that supports graduate student research scholarships and salaries for early-career researchers so that the next generation of scholars can focus on their studies and research, fostering master's and doctoral level professional researchers.

This year, 695 education and research groups and 364 education and research teams applied from 93 universities nationwide, and 562 groups (teams) from 68 universities were preliminarily selected.

With this project selection, Pukyong National University secured not only the support budget for education and research groups (teams) but also the graduate school innovation support fund provided to universities with five or more selected groups starting this year. A total of 40 billion KRW will be supported over seven years until 2027.

Accordingly, Pukyong National University plans to support master's students with 700,000 KRW per month, doctoral students with 1,300,000 KRW per month, and early-career researchers with 3,000,000 KRW per month, enabling master's and doctoral level personnel to focus steadily on their studies and research. This will strengthen the cultivation of convergent and interdisciplinary research personnel needed by the nation.

The 11 education and research groups (teams) from Pukyong National University selected this time are △ Functional Condensed Matter Physics Future Talent Development Project Team △ Smart Marine City Infrastructure Disaster and Disaster Mitigation Technology Education and Research Team △ Ultra-high-rise Marine City Architecture and Fire Disaster Safety Technology Education and Research Group △ i-SEED Earth Environment Education Research Group △ Data Science Application Talent Development Project Group for Regional Community Innovation Growth △ Smart Green Convergent Materials Talent Development Research Group △ New Senior Customized Smart Healthcare Project Group △ Artificial Intelligence Convergence Education and Research Group △ Smart Robot Convergence Application Education and Research Group △ MADEC Design Engineering △ Global Regional Expert Training Education and Research Group for the Internationalization of Eurasia Gateway City Busan.

The final selection of the 4th phase BK21 project is scheduled to be confirmed in September after university appeals and on-site inspections.
