[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that on the 23rd, it will conduct joint pest control with Eunpyeong-gu, Deogyang-gu in Goyang City, and the Seoul National Forest Management Office to control the outbreak of sudden pests (walking sticks) around Bongsan Sunrise Park.

Park Ji-hyun, a pest expert at the National Institute of Forest Science, explained that the reason for the outbreak was that the eggs hatched in large numbers due to last winter being warmer than usual.

Eunpyeong-gu has been continuously conducting pest control operations since the 9th and is currently carrying out the 9th round of chemical and physical pest control operations.

They are mobilizing all available personnel, including those from the COVID-19 Hope Job Project and the Seoul Green New Deal Urban Forest Maintenance Project, to carry out physical pest control work.

Additionally, they plan to promote drone pest control, which allows selective pest control rather than aerial spraying. Unlike aerial spraying, drone pest control sprays chemicals diagonally and selectively, which is expected to be highly effective in pest control and securing the health of the forest ecosystem.

On the 17th, Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, met with the Minister of Environment and proposed increasing the local government distribution rate of the environmental improvement charge. She plans to submit this agenda to the Seoul City Mayors' Council on the 27th.
