[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] When Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed his desire for Japan to take the lead in issuing a statement related to the Hong Kong situation at the Group of Seven (G7), China protested.
According to foreign media on the 10th, Prime Minister Abe stated in parliament that "The G7 has the mission to lead global public opinion, and Japan wants to take the lead in issuing a statement on Hong Kong's One Country, Two Systems."
Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said regarding Prime Minister Abe's remarks on the G7 statement, "We have already expressed deep concerns to Japan."
Spokesperson Hua pointed out, "The National People's Congress of China enacting relevant laws to safeguard Hong Kong's security is purely an internal affair of China, and no country has the right to interfere."
He added, "The relevant country (Japan) must abide by international law and the basic norms of international relations," urging compliance.
