[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Emart24 is launching a campaign to capture wine demand under the theme of "from cost-effective wines to premium wines." As purchasing wine at convenience stores becomes more common, customer demand for wine is also diversifying.
Emart24 announced on the 31st that it will offer the table wine famous ‘La Crasade Cabernet Shiraz’ for 9,900 KRW throughout June.
Selected as the wine of the month for June, ‘La Crasade Cabernet Shiraz’ is a red wine blended with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Shiraz. It features a harmony of vanilla and fruity aromas matured in oak barrels, making it a good match with various meat dishes such as steak. It won a gold medal at international wine competitions held last year in France, Germany, and other countries.
They will also sell high-end wines priced around 700,000 KRW. Through the WinePoint app, Emart24 will conduct a limited sale from 9 a.m. on June 1 to 1 p.m. on June 2 of three bottles of the 700,000 KRW ‘Vega Sicilia Unico 2009’ and 60 bottles of the 95,000 KRW ‘Two Hands Velas Garden Barossa Shiraz 2017.’
‘Vega Sicilia Unico’ is a rare wine with about 300 bottles imported annually to Korea and is called the ‘Roman?e-Conti of Spain.’ True to its name ‘Unico,’ meaning unique in Spanish, it is a wine produced only in years with good grape harvests at Vega Sicilia, Spain’s top vineyard.
Since it is aged for more than 10 years after brewing before release, it is difficult to obtain even within Spain, with waiting lists being common.
‘Vega Sicilia Unico’ is a typical classic style Tempranillo wine with intense dried cherry aroma, elegant mineral finish, and spicy aftertaste, offering a sense of balance and depth.
‘Two Hands Velas Garden Barossa Shiraz’ is produced by Two Hands Winery, praised by wine critic Robert Parker as one of the best winemakers. It is made from 100% Shiraz grapes harvested in Barossa Valley, South Australia, a representative Shiraz region, and pairs well with richly flavored meat dishes such as grilled lamb chops and steak. It is also a wine that can be enjoyed after aging for 10 to 15 years.
Son Areum, Emart24’s liquor buyer, said, “We prepared this event to make it easier to enjoy wines at convenience stores, from cost-effective wines to premium rare wines,” adding, “We plan to continue offering differentiated products and events tailored to the needs of convenience store wine customers.”
Meanwhile, wine sales at Emart24 are showing strong growth. An analysis of wine sales over the past two years revealed that wine sales from January to May this year surged 214% compared to the same period last year. The number of O2O service orders from January to May this year also increased by 320% compared to 2019.
