"133 Patients Related to Itaewon Clubs... 51 Are Contacts" (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] As of 12:00 PM on the 14th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) related to Itaewon clubs in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, was counted at 133. Among them, 82 were club visitors, and 51 were confirmed as secondary and tertiary transmissions among family members, acquaintances, and colleagues.


According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, as of 11:00 AM on the same day, there were 131 confirmed cases related to Itaewon clubs, with 2 additional cases confirmed later. The number of related confirmed cases by region is 73 in Seoul, 25 in Gyeonggi, 18 in Incheon, 8 in Chungbuk, 4 in Busan, and 1 each in Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Gyeongnam, Gangwon, and Jeju. Among the 8 cases in Chungbuk, 7 are related to the Ministry of National Defense quarantine facility.


Regarding the patients' gender, 112 are male and 21 are female. By age group, those in their 20s are the most at 83, followed by 23 in their 30s, 13 aged 18 or younger, 7 in their 40s, 4 in their 50s, and 3 aged 60 or older. Kwon Jun-wook, Deputy Director of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, stated, "So far, there are no patients with severe symptoms."


According to the quarantine authorities and local governments, 5,517 people have been confirmed to have visited Itaewon clubs from the 24th of last month to the 6th of this month. Deputy Director Kwon said, "Based on the visitor list, phone contacts, and credit card transaction details, about 2,500 visitors had not been reached as of the previous day."
