SK Telecom Launches World's First Quantum 5G Smartphone... Ultra-Collaboration with Samsung

[Asia Economy Reporter Joesulgina] A smartphone equipped with both 'quantum security,' which is the most perfect hacking prevention technology currently available, and 5G communication capabilities has been released. SK Telecom, through close collaboration with Samsung Electronics, is unveiling the world's first 5G smartphone 'Galaxy A Quantum' featuring a quantum random number generation (QRNG) chipset.

According to SK Telecom on the 14th, the Galaxy A Quantum will be available for pre-order from the 15th to the 21st and will officially launch on the 22nd. It is characterized by the world's smallest quantum random number generation chipset measuring 2.5mm by 2.5mm.

As a result, customers who purchase the Galaxy A Quantum will be able to use key services containing personal information more securely, such as double login for T ID including T map and T membership, biometric authentication for SK Pay, and the mobile electronic certification service 'Initial.' This concept strengthens service security by generating encryption keys based on random numbers provided by the quantum random number generation chipset.

This is the first time that quantum security technology, which has been applied to communication networks and servers, has been applied to a smartphone. In particular, it is significant in that quantum security technology can now be experienced in daily life through business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions, not just business-to-business (B2B) transactions.

Yu Sang-young, head of SK Telecom's MNO Business Division, said, "We have rewritten the history of the global quantum security industry," and added, "We will continuously expand differentiated security solutions so that customers living in the 5G hyper-connected era can use ICT services with peace of mind." SK Telecom plans to apply quantum security to online merchant app payments in the future and expand the related ecosystem.

The Galaxy A Quantum features premium specifications such as a 6.7-inch large Infinity-O display, 8GB RAM, and a 4500mAh large-capacity battery. The retail price is 649,000 KRW.
