Toyota Holds Online Racing Tournament 'GR Supra GT Cup 2020' Qualifiers

Preliminary Round 2 to be Held on the 17th of This Month

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Toyota Korea announced on the 14th that the second round of the qualifying for the 'GR Supra GT Cup 2020,' hosted by Toyota Gazoo Racing, will be held on the 17th.

The GR Supra GT Cup 2020 is an e-motorsport event planned by Toyota Gazoo Racing to increase interest in motorsports and sports cars. It is a global online one-make race competition to determine the fastest GR Supra driver.

The first round of qualifying, held on the 26th of last month, saw about 7,600 drivers from around the world compete online on the Fuji International Speedway course in Japan. Eighteen drivers participated from Korea. The second round will be held on the 17th of this month at the N?rburgring course in Germany, and participation is possible from the second round onward.

Anyone who owns the GR Supra in Gran Turismo Sport for PlayStation®4 can participate. Among the total seven rounds, the 24 drivers with the best results in four rounds will qualify for the final round scheduled for November this year. Final round participants will have all expenses covered, including airfare and accommodation costs to the round venue.

Kang Dae-hwan, Executive Director of Toyota Korea, said, "Through Gazoo Racing, Toyota is working to promote motorsports culture worldwide by actively participating in motorsports events so that more people can enjoy and love cars." He added, "We hope that more domestic drivers will participate in this round to compete with overseas drivers and experience the joy of driving."
