[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Youngkyu] Gyeonggi Province has decided to lift the "administrative order restricting use" for religious facilities and other multi-use facilities. However, the province will extend the usage restrictions for facilities related to the Shincheonji Church of Jesus. If other provinces or cities lift their restrictions, Gyeonggi Province will actively consider following suit.

At a regular briefing on May 6, Lim Seungkwan, Co-Director of the Gyeonggi Province COVID-19 Emergency Response Team, stated, "With the COVID-19 quarantine system shifting from 'social distancing' to 'distancing in daily life' (routine quarantine), we have decided not to extend the administrative order restricting the use of multi-use and religious facilities."

However, Director Lim emphasized, "Distancing in daily life is a continuous quarantine system that ensures daily life and economic and social activities while simultaneously preventing and blocking infections," and he urged, "Although we have transitioned to a routine quarantine system, we must not let our guard down."

Previously, in line with the central government's social distancing guidelines, the province had issued an administrative order recommending the suspension of operations for about 50,000 multi-use facilities in the province, including PC rooms and entertainment venues.

However, with the transition to distancing in daily life, the province will not extend the administrative order for multi-use facilities and will instead issue individual administrative orders only if confirmed cases arise.

However, the closure of Shincheonji facilities and restrictions on gatherings will not be lifted immediately; the decision will be made after considering the situation in other provinces and cities.

For sports events, the province is considering a plan to conduct tests on coaches, athletes, and staff before the event and to hold the competitions without spectators.

Meanwhile, on May 6, one additional case of community transmission was confirmed in Gyeonggi Province.

The newly confirmed patient is a man in his 20s who lives in Giheung-gu, Yongin City, and works at an IT company in Bundang-gu, Seongnam City. It was confirmed that he has not gone to work since April 30.

According to the epidemiological investigation, the confirmed patient visited an otolaryngology clinic in Jangan-gu, Suwon City twice, on May 3 and May 5, due to a high fever. After undergoing screening at the Giheung-gu screening clinic on May 5, he was confirmed positive on the morning of May 6.

The province is conducting an in-depth epidemiological investigation, has placed one household contact under self-quarantine and testing, and is identifying additional contacts.

As of midnight on May 6, the number of confirmed cases in Gyeonggi Province stands at 681, unchanged from the previous day. Of these, 528 patients have been discharged, and 137 are currently under isolation and treatment at hospitals and residential treatment centers.
