[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] As the number of households raising companion dogs increases, dog bite incidents are also on the rise. Recently, an incident occurred in an apartment complex in Busan where two Bulldogs on a walk bit a person. The victim reportedly sustained serious injuries to the thigh.
On the 5th, SBS '8 News' released CCTV footage showing a woman being attacked by one Bulldog with a loose leash and another Bulldog wearing a leash.
In the released footage, the victim, holding her own dog, fled upstairs to escape the chasing dogs. However, the dogs continued to pursue and attack her.
In an interview, the victim explained, "They jumped up and bit people as I went upstairs. So I ran like crazy," adding, "I was running holding my dog in one hand, but they bit my thigh and wouldn’t let go."
Notably, the person who brought the Bulldogs was a middle school teenager who tried to stop the attack but was unable to do so.
The victim is currently receiving hospital treatment for injuries to the thigh.
The Bulldog owner admitted fault and stated they would be more cautious in the future, such as transporting the dogs in a stroller outdoors.
Additionally, after the incident, the apartment complex posted banners outlining rules that pet owners must follow.
Animal behavior education expert Lee Chanjong commented in an interview, "The accident happened because of the belief that dogs could be freely unleashed in the apartment’s park, which is only for residents," and emphasized, "Training and mandatory education are necessary to prevent problems while living with people."
The police have applied charges of negligence causing injury against the Bulldog owner and plan to send the case to the prosecution promptly.
