[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The search for lost remains and belongings at the site of the 'Icheon Logistics Warehouse Fire' disaster, which claimed 38 lives, is ongoing for the second day.
The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency deployed 15 forensic investigators to the logistics warehouse fire site in Moga-myeon, Icheon City, Gyeonggi Province, starting around 9 a.m. on the 3rd, and began a detailed search.
The forensic investigators plan to use hoes, shovels, and sieves to remove and sift through the burnt ashes to find remains and belongings. The search on this day will focus on the basement level 2, which was not thoroughly searched the previous day.
Earlier, the first detailed search was conducted mainly in the basement area, presumed to be the initial ignition point, where two sets of remains and one mobile phone were found and collected. The police have requested the National Forensic Service to analyze the discovered remains and belongings.
Additionally, autopsies have been completed on 13 of the 18 deceased. For the remaining four who have consented to autopsy, schedules are being coordinated with the National Forensic Service.
Furthermore, on the previous afternoon, the investigation team explained the progress to the victims' families, and the two foreign nationals who died were placed in a funeral hall. The deceased's belongings and 12 vehicles were handed over to the families.
