[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) will distribute 3 to 10 transparent hygiene masks (mouth masks) to about 9,000 restaurants by the end of this month, depending on the size of each establishment.

This is part of a food culture improvement project carried out in cooperation with the Korea Foodservice Industry Association Jung-gu Branch to thoroughly prevent the spread of COVID-19 infectious disease and maintain hygiene management.

The transparent hygiene masks help prevent saliva and foreign substances that may occur during the cooking process, reducing the risk of droplet infection, and are also effective in preventing infection of pathogens through the respiratory tract.

Additionally, they can be easily washed with water and reused, and are lightweight to wear, making them a popular item among foodservice workers recently.

The owner of a restaurant in Myeongdong who tried wearing the distributed mouth mask said with a smile, "It is more convenient and hygienic than I thought. It will be a useful essential item for preventing infectious diseases like COVID-19."

While distributing the transparent mouth masks, the district office also provides a COVID-19 prevention self-hygiene inspection checklist. The checklist helps businesses self-check the quarantine guidelines they must follow and voluntarily maintain thorough hygiene management in daily life.

Before the government’s announcement on the transition to a daily quarantine system, the district office began establishing a posture for daily quarantine in preparation for the prolonged COVID-19 situation since the end of March.

They provide detailed guidance on the importance of self-quarantine at each home and business, disinfection methods, and quarantine guidelines, and have formed autonomous quarantine teams by neighborhood to steadily implement a voluntary daily quarantine system.

Seoyangho, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "Although these are difficult times, I hope thorough hygiene management will help create a safe dining environment and boost the morale of general restaurants facing economic difficulties due to business hardships." He added, "As social distancing is eased and the system transitions to daily quarantine, I ask each business to make efforts in self-quarantine."
